Youth clubhouse celebrates first anniversary
(June 06, 2001) The Boys & Girls Club of the Peninsula is celebrating the first anniversary of the Moldaw-Zaffaroni clubhouse in East Palo Alto on Saturday, June 9, with an evening event called "Be a Kid for a Night."
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with young club members leading adults through arts and crafts activities and typical computer activities in the games room, followed by a silent auction and dinner.
During the dinner, two Youth of the Year awards will be presented. Speaking at the event will be San Francisco 49er Coach Steve Mariucci, former 49er and local businessman Bill Ring, and Anne Cribbs with the Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee.
For the silent auction, the club is seeking donations of gift certificates or items valued at more than $50. In return, the club will give donors prominent recognition at the event.
The Boys & Girls Club of the Peninsula serves more than 4,000 children in East Palo, Menlo Park and Redwood City with after-school and all-day services for an annual membership fee of $5.
The club raised $8 million to build the 25,000-square-foot Moldaw-Zaffaroni clubhouse and rebuild the McNeil Family clubhouse in east Menlo Park.
The Moldaw-Zaffaroni clubhouse is located at 2031 Pulgas Ave. at the corner of O'Connor Street in East Palo Alto. For more information on "Be a Kid for a Night," call Sarah Low at 321-0389.
