Independence Day

July 3rd at Frost Ampitheatre on Stanford campus, 7:30 p.m. Tues., July 3. San Jose Symphony with Leonid Grin, followed by fireworks. Program includes Handel's "Music for the Royal Fireworks" and works by Dvorak, Brahms, Bernstein, Gould, Gershwin, Tchaikovsky and Sousa. Concert and Festival in San Jose benefit Emergency Housing Consortium. The newly reunited Bangles perform, 4 p.m. Tues., July 3, Discovery Meadow at Guadalupe River Park, Woz Way and San Carlos St., downtown San Jose. Tickets $10, kids under 5 free. Food and drink, arts and crafts booths, Kidland, all open during concert. At same location next day, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Wed., July 4, San Jose America Festival features live music on three stages, plus food, drink, arts and crafts, Kidland rides. Admission free. Woodside Junior Norcal Rodeo from 8:30 a.m. Wed., July 4. Main rodeo events begin at noon: contestants 18 years and younger. Menlo Park's Fourth of July starts with Little League championship game, approximately 10 a.m. Wed., in Burgess Park. Community parade of decorated bikes, trikes, wagons, antique cars, and floats assembles at Wells Fargo parking lot, corner of Santa Cruz Ave. and Chestnut. Parade steps off 10:45 a.m. to march to Burgess Park on Alma. Picnic 11 a.m.-3 p.m. features music, games, activities, petting zoo, climbing wall, giant slide, swimming, food booths. Free admission. Redwood City Fourth begins with pancake breakfast, 7-10 a.m., fire station on Marshall St. Tickets: $4 adults; $2 children.
