Addressing cross-Bay transportation problems
Addressing cross-Bay transportation problems
(April 03, 2002) Some of the worst traffic nightmares in the Bay Area face commuters trying to get from the East Bay and Central Valley to jobs on the Peninsula _ and back.
Half a dozen proposed solutions to the problem will be presented at a meeting Wednesday, April 3, from 1:30 to 4 p.m., at SamTrans Headquarters, 1250 San Carlos Ave., in San Carlos.
Early findings of the San Francisco Bay Crossings Study narrow the alternatives down to six, which include a new rail tunnel under the Bay, a new bridge across the Bay, better express bus service, and reactivating train service on the old Dumbarton Bridge.
Following the April 3 meeting, the study will enter the public outreach phase, including stakeholder interviews, a second poll, and two public meetings, one on each side of the Bay. The final report is due this summer.
The West Bay public meeting is set for Tuesday, April 30, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Menlo Park, in the downstairs meeting room of the library, at 900 Alma St.
