The cancer center is a community-based cancer research and education facility, a spokesperson said.

Mr. Bronfman is involved in a wide variety of civic and philanthropic activities. He serves on the boards of Menlo School, the Youth Tennis Association, and the Jewish Museum in San Francisco.

The 1975 graduate of Williams College joined the family business, Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, in 1979, after working at Sports Illustrated in New York City. Currently, Mr. Bronfman is chairman of global wines for Diageo p.l.c., which acquired Seagram's wine business from Vivendi Corp. in 2000, which had acquired it from Seagram in 1997.
