Decades after they drifted apart, actress Carol Channing, 82, and real estate developer Harry Kullijian, 83, were married May 10 at the Atherton home of Roz and Mervin Morris.
Mr. Morris, well-known philanthropist and founder of the Mervyn's department stores, not only gave the bride away, he played cupid in reuniting the couple who were sweethearts at Aptos Junior High School in San Francisco 70 years ago
A mutual friend of both the actress and Mr. Kullijian, Mr. Morris noticed earlier this year that she mentioned Harry Kullijian several times in her autobiography, "Just Lucky, I Guess." He urged his friend to call Miss Channing on her birthday on January 31.
The romance rekindled and the couple was soon engaged. The wedding took place Mother's Day weekend in the Morris' newly built Atherton home with the Rev. Ron Blanc of Modesto officiating. Mr. Kullijian's daughter, Leslie Fennell was matron of honor. The bride's cousin, Richard Long, was best man. The reception was catered by the Menlo Circus Club.
Mr. and Mrs. Morris have been friends of Miss Channing since she appeared in "Hello Dolly" in San Francisco. They also own homes near each other in Rancho Mirage. Mr. Kullijian owns the land where Mr. Morris' offices are located on Sand Hill Road.
The newlyweds are honeymooning in Carmel and will divide their time between their homes in Modesto and Rancho Mirage.
