Sacred Heart Preparatory School graduated 106 seniors during traditional ceremonies June 5 on Palm Court at the school's campus in Atherton.

Speaking at the commencement was Dr. Eavan Boland, director of the School of Creative Writing at Stanford University and a Sacred Heart alumna. Dr. Boland has published eight volumes of poetry and co-authored the "Norton Anthology of Poetic Forms -- The Making of a Poem." She has been writer-in-residence at Trinity College and University College in Dublin; a professor at Washington University; and regent's lecturer at the University of California at Santa Barbara before joining the English department at Stanford in 1995.

The National Merit Scholarship Program, along with the National Hispanic Recognition Program, recognized 22 Sacred Heart seniors as distinguished scholars.

All the graduates plan to go to colleges and universities throughout the United States and Canada, including: Boston College, Dartmouth, Princeton, Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, Harvard, Reed and Barnard.
