Ask the officer Ask the officer (December 10, 2003)

Menlo Park police officer Glenn J. Raggio answers questions about the police and law enforcement. Call 330-6396, or e-mail: asktheofficer@menlopark.org. Q. You mentioned you live in town. Do you ever see people you have arrested? A. Yes. I do most of my shopping and eating in town. It's awkward encountering someone you have had negative dealings with. Thus far, there have been no significant negative responses. Even officers who don't live in town must be constantly on guard for such accidental meetings. Most officers while dining out will ask for a seat facing the entrance to the restaurant. Most veteran officers have a wide range of peripheral vision. They see people long before the officers are seen. This becomes rote after a time and takes no special effort.
