Conservation group endorses John Carcione Conservation group endorses John Carcione (December 10, 2003)

Menlo Park resident John Carcione, who is seeking the Democratic nomination to represent the 21st district in the state Assembly, has received an endorsement from the California League of Conservation Voters.

The environmental group said it endorsed Mr. Carcione because of his "commitment to preventing pollution, preserving open space, protecting the Bay and the coastline" and his work implementing policies against pollution as president of the West Bay Sanitary District board.

Several other candidates will be competing for the Assembly seat in the March 2004 primary: Democrats Ira Ruskin, John Barton, Chris Kelly and Barbara Nesbet; and Republican Steve Poizner.

Considered a safe Democratic seat, the Assembly position is currently held by Joe Simitian, who is running for the State Senate. The district covers parts of south San Mateo County and north Santa Clara County.
