Corte Madera wins flag football title
(December 17, 2003) Corte Madera School's varsity flag football team defeated Highlands School 9-0 recently to win the Small School Intermediate League championship.
There was a safety at the beginning of the game for the Portola Valley team and a touchdown with an extra point late in the third quarter.
The team, 13 eighth-graders and two seventh-graders, was coached by Dan Flahavan, PE teacher at Corte Madera; Trevor Mates, senior at Menlo College; and Brendan Lee, a junior at Woodside High School and a Corte Madera graduate.
To win the championship, Corte Madera had to defeat Armstrong School and Highlands School in single elimination. Earlier in the season, the Portola Valley team had lost to both teams. The Corte Madera season record was 8-3.
