Woodside re-elects school board president Woodside re-elects school board president (December 24, 2003)

Trustee Lori Livingston was re-elected as president of the governing board of the Woodside Elementary School District at the board's December 17 meeting. The new vice president is Trustee Kimberly McMorrow and the clerk is Trustee Barbara Tagg, who was also re-elected.

Ms. Livingston was re-elected in part in recognition of her leadership in the fight to defeat a proposal by former Gov. Gray Davis to appropriate a large portion of property tax revenues from school districts such as Woodside, said district superintendent John Harter.

"I believe the board felt that we're not out of the woods by any means," Mr. Harter said, noting that Ms. Livingston was instrumental in analyzing the impact of the proposal and in pointing out the inequities and assumptions surrounding the issue. "She was well-suited to continue in that role," Mr. Harter said.

The president, whose term lasts for a year, chairs the board meetings, sets the meeting agendas and is the board's spokesperson. The vice president fills in when the president is absent, while the clerk handles the routine business of the board.

Two-year terms are not unprecedented at Woodside. Trustee Tom Mudd also served two consecutive terms, Mr. Harter said.

The five-member board elected Ms. Livingston, Ms. McMorrow and Ms. Tagg on 4-0 votes.
