Menlo Park residents asked to speak out on cuts in city services Menlo Park residents asked to speak out on cuts in city services (December 31, 2003)

Three January meetings have been scheduled for Menlo Park residents to provide comment on which city services are sacrosanct and which could be considered as possible prey for the budget-cutting axe.

City officials say revenues are not keeping pace with expenditures and that services will need to be reduced or eliminated in 2004. Recently, about 1,000 residents responded to a mailed-out survey on which services to cut back.

In the last two years, Menlo Park officials have already made about $3.5 million in cuts to city services, officials said.

Survey results will be presented in January and should be a topic of discussion at the three meetings. The events are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, January 17, at the Burgess Recreation Center at 800 Alma St.; 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, at the Parish Center at St. Raymond Church, 1100 Santa Cruz Ave.; and 6:30 p.m. Thursday, January 29, at the Onetta Harris Community Center at 100 Terminal Ave.
