Y.A. Tittle arrested for drunken driving
Atherton resident and Hall-of-Fame former pro football quarterback Y.A. Tittle was arrested and cited for drunken driving in Palo Alto at about 5:25 p.m. December 19 when the vehicle he was driving rear-ended another vehicle near the intersection of El Camino Real and Churchill Avenue, said Sgt. Patty Lum of the Palo Alto Police Department.
There were no injuries in the accident and Mr. Tittle was released after arranging for a ride home, Sgt. Lum said. If he pleads guilty, he could be required to take mandatory classes on drinking and driving, perform community service, or pay a fine, Sgt. Lum said.
Mr. Tittle, 77, played for the San Francisco 49ers for 10 seasons in the 1950s.
Hazardous waste drop-off day Jan. 10
When the latest double-A goes to the big battery graveyard in the sky, don't just chuck it out. Officials say many items including hazardous materials -- such as batteries, paint, thinners, pesticides and cleaning solvents -- must be disposed of properly.
As part of a county program, these materials can be dropped off at a location in Menlo Park on Saturday, January 10. Residents of Menlo Park, Atherton, Portola Valley, Woodside, Redwood City and East Palo Alto are eligible to participate.
Appointments are required to drop off materials. To make an appointment, go
