Symposium set on retirement planning
Symposium set on retirement planning
(December 31, 2003) Planning for retirement is done on many levels, both emotional and practical. At a January 10 symposium, two Menlo Park residents will impart their wisdom in hopes of making this transition easier.
Ian Morrison, a futurist and president emeritus of the Institute for the Future, will be keynote speaker of the event, which takes place at the Avenidas senior services agency in Palo Alto.
Mr. Morrison, who has written several books on the future of health care and business management, will give a talk entitled "Health and Happiness: The Future of Health Care and Retirement Security." As a consultant on management and health care, he has worked for government, nonprofit and industry organizations, Joan Aragone, communications coordinator for Avenidas, said.
Besides health care, another major issue surrounding retirement is the question of whether to move out of one's home.
Nancy Goldcamp, a Coldwell Banker real estate agent who specializes in the needs of seniors, will speak on this topic. She helps clients ready their homes for sale, assisting with asset evaluation and liquidating possession, Ms. Aragone said.
Following the talks, Palo Alto Weekly editor Jay Thorwaldson will moderate a panel discussion called "Real People Talking About Real Retirement."
The symposium runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes a continental breakfast, lunch and workshop materials. The fee is $40 if postmarked by January 2, and $45 afterward. For more information, call Avenidas at 326-5362. The center is located at 450 Bryant St.
