German-American school expands French program
(January 21, 2004) The German-American International School will hold an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, January 24, at the school, 275 Elliott Drive in Menlo Park.
From 1 to 3 p.m. there will be presentations featuring the complete German immersion program (preschool through eighth grade), and the new French immersion full-time pre-kindergarten program, scheduled to begin in September.
From 3 to 4 p.m., Sylvia Ford, coordinator of Parents Place Express in Palo Alto, will speak on "Challenges in Bilingual Education.
The school, founded in 1988, has 170 students. By September, it plans to become a dual language immersion school by collaborating with the Palo Alto French Education Association, a private school that will provide a full-time French immersion program for pre-kindergarten children on the German-American School campus.
The French school offers after-school classes at the German-American School for French-speaking children in grades K-8. No prior knowledge of French is required for the new pre-kindergarten class.
Free babysitting is available at the school during Ms. Ford's January 24 presentation.
