Wedding Wedding (January 21, 2004)

Menker-Browne

Barbara W. Menker of Menlo Park and Harry L. Browne of Palo Alto were married December 17 in a private ceremony in Portola Valley.

Witnesses to the ceremony were Ms. Menker's son, Robert Menker, and Mr. Browne's granddaughter, Stephanie Kirkland.

The couple first met 42 years ago when Mr. Browne hired Ms. Menker's husband, the late "Bill" Menker, to work as a radio-chemist for the company, Hazelton-Nuclear Science, now a part of Teledyne.

They reconnected in 1999 as widow and widower, when Mr. Browne nominated her as a member of the board of directors of La Comida in Palo Alto. Frequent meetings at board functions and elsewhere led to romance and, eventually a marriage proposal, says the bride. She says the friendly residents of Channing House, where Mr. Browne lives, helped persuade her to say yes.

Ms. Menker, a resident of Menlo Park since 1994, is the former education/leisure manager of Little House. Mr. Browne is a retired nuclear engineer.

Following a honeymoon in Cabo San Lucas, the newlyweds are dividing their time between their Menlo Park and Palo Alto residences.
