Menlo woman's home invaded
A 40-year-old woman alone in bed in her O'Connor Street home in Menlo Park was the victim of a home invasion over the weekend when a stranger sneaked into her bedroom and attempted to cover her mouth with his hand, said Sgt. Mark Boettger of the Menlo Park police.
Neighbors heard a woman screaming and called police at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday, January 31, Sgt. Boettger said. Although police quickly responded with dogs and cordoned off the area, the suspect was not found. There was no evidence of forced entry.
The suspect was described as a clean-shaven 25- to 35-year-old African-American man, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and either bald or with close-cropped hair. He was bare-chested at the time and has a well-toned body, police said.
Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to call 330-6300.
Man arrested on bank robbery charges
Santa Clara police arrested a man suspected of 28 bank robberies in the South Bay and Peninsula, including three in Menlo Park: The U.S. Bank on July 11, the Bank of the West on October 29, and Union Bank of California on December 30.
The suspect -- who typically wore a baseball cap, waited in line and handed the teller a demand note -- was arrested near Los Gatos about an hour after a robbery in Santa Clara.
