End of the rainbow End of the rainbow (February 04, 2004)

Caption with Carol Ivie picture in print edition: This brightly painted house on Oakdell Drive in Menlo Park, which had become a local landmark of sorts, crumbles to the ground January 28. The family had decorated the house themselves, including a rainbow pattern on the garage, while waiting for it to be demolished, causing some neighbors to complain. But there is no city law regulating the color of one's house, City Attorney Bill McClure said, so the designs remained for a few months until the bulldozer came. Building officials said the family received a demolition permit but has not yet submitted building plans to replace the house.
