Ask the officer Ask the officer (February 11, 2004)

Menlo Park police officer Glenn J. Raggio answers questions about the police and law enforcement. Call 330-6396, or e-mail: asktheofficer@menlopark.org.

Q. How do Menlo Park police, Atherton police, and San Mateo County sheriff's deputies handle problems or events that come up in the boundary areas between jurisdictions (for example, along Ringwood, some parts of Middlefield, some parts of El Camino, etc.)?

A. Dispatchers! They tell us while we are en route to the call whether it's "county" or "ours." Sometimes they have to look it up themselves to make sure. It's actually possible to have three different jurisdictions on the same three-block street.
