Kindergarten signups
(February 11, 2004)
Laurel, Oak Knoll
It's time for parents to register their 5-year-olds for kindergarten in the fall at Laurel and Oak Knoll schools in the Menlo Park City School District.
Early registration helps the district with class planning. To be eligible for kindergarten in the fall, children must be age 5 by December 2, 2004.
Families living on the east side of El Camino Real should register at the Laurel School office at 95 Edge Road in Atherton. Nancy Hendry is the principal of this K-2 school.
Families living on the west side of El Camino should register at the Oak Knoll School office at 1895 Oak Knoll Lane, Menlo Park. David Ackerman is the principal of this K-5 school.
To register, parents must bring a birth certificate or other legal proof of the child's age; proof of residence in the district such as a deed, lease or rental agreement or a PG&E bill; and a copy of the child's immunization record.
Children entering school must show proof of immunization for DPT, polio, hepatitis B (the completed series takes up to six months), mumps, measles, rubella and Varicella (or a doctor's signature that the child had chicken pox).
Laurel School will host two kindergarten orientation meetings from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, April 1, and Thursday, May 6. Call the school office at 324-0816 to reserve a space.
Oak Knoll School's kindergarten orientation meeting will be on Thursday, May 6, with the time to be announced later. Call the school office at 854-4433 to reserve a space.
For more information, call the district office at 321-7140, the individual

Las Lomitas
Registration for kindergarten at Las Lomitas School has begun. Children who will be 5 years old on or before December 2, 2004, are eligible.
Principal Jerry Traynor urges parents to sign up as soon as possible in the school office at 299 Alameda de las Pulgas in Atherton. Office hours are 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Documents needed at the time of registration include verification of birth date and proof of district residence, such as an original utility bill. Parents also need to provide proof of immunization for polio, measles, diphtheria, whooping cough, rubella, tetanus, mumps, chicken pox and three doses of hepatitis B. Children should also have a physical exam before starting school.
For parents of children new to kindergarten, six tours at Las Lomitas School are scheduled for the next three months. Dates are: February 10 and 25, March 16, 25 and 31, and April 13. Call 854-5900 to schedule a tour or for more information.
