Camellia Society show and auction

The Peninsula Camellia Society will hold its annual flower show from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, February 14, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, February 15, in the Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Ave. in Redwood City.

On the following Sunday -- February 22, at 1 p.m. -- the society will hold its annual auction, where the rarest and most sought-after camellias will be for sale, said president Barbara Tuffli of Atherton. The auction also is held in the Community Activities Building.

Outstanding plants for sale will include: Valentine Day, a camellia reticulata with a large salmon pink flower, and Chrysantha, a prize yellow camellia from South China.

Peninsula Camellia Society holds monthly programs and encourages anyone interested to attend their free events. After the show and auction, the next meeting, a camellia grafting workshop, takes place at 7:30 p.m. Monday, February 23, at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Ave., Redwood City.

Rabbi speaks at Breakfast at Bede's

Rabbi Patricia Karlin-Newman will speak in Menlo Park on Wednesday, February 11, on the challenges and promises of inter-faith education among Stanford students. The program starts at 7 a.m. in the great hall at St. Bede's Episcopal Church.

Rabbi Karlin-Newman is senior associate dean for religious life at Stanford. The title of her talk is "We can protest together, but can we pray together?"

Donation for the breakfast is $10. For reservations, call the church office, 854-6555.

Valentine celebration at Little House

A dinner dance will be held, starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, February 12, at Little House Activity Center, 800 Middle Ave. in Menlo Park. Cost is $10 for members and $12 for others. Tickets are available at the community service desk. For more information, call 326-2025.

Audtions for Palo Alto Players

Palo Alto Players will hold open auditions for all roles in its spring musical, "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," February 15, 16 and 17 in the Lucie Stern rehearsal hall, located in the rear of the theater, 1305 Middlefield Road. The musical has a cast of 17 men and 13 women. The production will also feature a children's chorus of 12-24 boys and girls.

Adult auditions will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, February 16 and 17. Children's auditions will be held from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday, February 15.
