Forum this week on hospitals
Forum this week on hospitals
(February 25, 2004) The second in a series of community forums sponsored by the county to discuss issues related to plans to build two competing hospitals near each other -- and near Kaiser Permanente in Redwood City -- is set for Thursday, February 26.
The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the SamTrans auditorium, 1250 San Carlos Ave., in San Carlos.
It is being conducted by a task force created by the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors to study the feasibility and regional impacts of current plans for hospital facilities in the South County: Sequoia Hospital wants to rebuild its facilities on its current Redwood City site at Alameda de las Pulgas and Whipple Avenue; and the Palo Alto Medical Foundation plans to build a medical complex that includes a full-service hospital in Redwood City or San Carlos. Kaiser hospital is significantly expanding its campus on Veterans Boulevard.
Supervisors and many in the medical community have questioned whether the area can support all three facilities.
The agenda includes presentations by representatives of all three medical organizations about their facilities plans.
