Basketball: Bears fall to San Benito, 58-52

Menlo-Atherton boys basketball team was defeated in the CCS Division I playoffs February 28 by the San Benito High School Haybalers, 58-52, at Santa Clara High School.

The Tri-County Athletic League champion Haybalers shot out to a 7-point lead and never lost it. Bear's junior Dan Trautman scored 14 points, including two 3-pointers, and senior Steve Yob played his final game as a Bear.
Basketball: Sacred Heart advances to semifinals

The Sacred Heart Prep Gators advance to the semifinals of the Division V CCS playoffs with their 64-32 win February 28 over North Valley Baptist High School. The Gators' Tyler Holland scored 20 points in the victory. Sacred Heart moves on to face Redwood Christian High School on Tuesday, March 2, at 8 p.m. at Sacred Heart Prep.

Baseball: M-A edges Hillsdale, 7-6

Menlo-Atherton defeated Hillsdale 7-6 in extra innings February 24 at Flood Park. The Bears scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning when sophomore Tyler Finley doubled home JT Power, who was on base after being hit by a pitch. In the top of the eighth, Alec Roth threw out two runners from right field to halt a rally by Hillsdale. The Bears are now 1-1 for the season and Hillsdale is 0-1.

Baseball: Woodside tops M-A, 74

Woodside High School and Menlo-Atherton opened the 2004 baseball season February 13 at Flood Park with Woodside winning, 7-4. The game was a classic first game of the season with M-A making seven errors. Alex Johnson had two hits and drove in two runs for Woodside. Alex Bedrosian had a double for M-A. Kurt de la Rosa came in with the bases loaded in the fifth inning to record a strikeout and the save; he finished not allowing any runs. Kyle McCabe and Domenic Di Ricco combined for five innings for M-A, not allowing any earned runs.

Basketball: Oaks drop tourney game, 76-49

The Menlo College Oaks men's basketball team wrapped up its season February 26 with a loss to the Dominican University Penguins, 76-49, on the first day of the CAL PAC tournament. The Oaks' Mike Watters, a first team All Conference choice, had a game high of 16 points, going 6 for 6 from the free-throw line, and becoming only the fifth player in the school's history to score 1,000 career points. Menlo finished the season with a 4-22 record.
