Weed workshop set for Saturday
Weed workshop set for Saturday
(March 03, 2004) As invading weeds -- like yellow star thistle and French broom -- spread over Peninsula fields and wildlands, the San Mateo County Weed Management Area is presenting a free Weed Workshop on Saturday, March 6, from 8:30 a.m. until noon, at Portola Valley Town Center at 765 Portola Road.
Landowners, gardeners, nature lovers, volunteers, land managers, and anyone who wants to know more about weeds are invited. Speakers from Peninsula land management agencies will talk about the threat these plants pose, how to recognize them, and how to get rid of them.
Participants are invited to bring a bag lunch and join an afternoon work party to tackle nearby French broom.
If that isn't enough, weed warriors can return the next Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon for a town Broom Pull Party sponsored by the Portola Valley Conservation Committee.
To sign up for the workshop, call 361-1218 or e-mail WeedAware@aol.com as soon as possible.
