This information is from the Atherton and Menlo Park police departments and the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. Under the law, people charged with offenses are considered innocent until convicted.
Atherton
Grand theft: Someone stole a black duffle bag from outside a house in the 200 block of Catalpa Drive on March 4. The bag contained a computer, bank statements and a checkbook.
Petty thefts: Cell phone taken from an Encinal School classroom March 1. Wallet stolen from purse at Encinal School March 3.
Menlo Park
Vehicle accident/injury:
** A pedestrian collided with a car in the 800 block of Menlo Avenue on February 27. The victim reported minor pain and was treated at the scene.
** A cyclist collided with a car at the intersection of Laurel Street and Ravenswood Avenue on March 2. The victim had minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Fraud: Fraudulent charges made on a credit card, 700 block Menlo Avenue, March 1. Identity theft reported, 1000 block Trinity Drive, March 3. Bad check received, 1100 block Merrill Street on March 2. Car bought through identity theft, 300 block El Camino Real, March 2. Midpenninsula Animal Hospital received bad checks, 100 block Merrill Street, March 2.
Grand theft: Bicycle stolen from porch, 2200 block Sharon Road, March 1. Gary Fisher bicycle stolen, 600 block Sharon Park Drive, March 3. Computer stolen, Belle Haven Elementary School, March 3.
Vandalism:
** A woman reported at the police station on February 29 that someone slashed her convertible top.
** A man reported that someone smashed a window on his pick-up truck on March 1.
** Someone smashed windows to the post office in the 3800 block of Bohannon Drive on March 2.
Burglaries:
** Someone broke into a garage, entered the vehicle inside, and stole the garage door opener on February 29.
** Someone stole tools from a fenced-in yard in the 4000 block of Campbell Avenue on March 1.
Vehicle thefts: Vehicle were reported stolen at these locations: 300 block of El Camino Real, February 27; 1300 block of Willow Road, February 29; 1100 block of Madera Avenue, March 1; 1200 block of O'Brien Drive, March 3; trailer stolen, 4000 block of Bohannon Drive, March 3.
Auto burglaries: Items stolen, 1200 block Madera Avenue, February 28. Cell phone stolen, 100 block Newbridge Street, March 1.
Petty thefts: Bicycle stolen, 2200 block Sharon Road, February 28. Baby diapers and formula stolen from Safeway, 500 block El Camino Real, February 27.
Woodside
Fraud: A resident of the 3700 block
of Woodside Road reported that someone used the resident's personal information
to obtain a credit card on or before February 10.
Embezzlement: Someone made an agreement to take over the lease of a car sometime before February 26; as of March 5 no payments had been made and the man and car have disappeared.
Grand theft: Two scooters were stolen from an open carport in the 100 block of Alta Mesa Road on or before February 26.
Burglaries: ** Someone broke a glass door and stole personal items from a house in the first block of Barrett Drive on or before March 1.
** Someone broke a window and stole personal items from a house in the 1200 block of Godetia Drive.
Portola Valley
Fraud: Someone tried to buy a computer using somebody's personal information on or before March 2.
Grand theft: Someone stole a wedding ring from a house in the 100 block of Golden Oak Drive on or before February 25.
Ladera
Vandalism: Someone smashed the side window of a vehicle in the 200 block of Erica Way on or before February 28.
