A tree grows in Menlo Park A tree grows in Menlo Park (March 10, 2004)

Caption with Carol Ivie photo in print edition: Artist Patricia LaFleur puts the finishing touches on the mural outside Mike's Cafe on Middlefield Road at Willow Road in Menlo Park. The mural was set to be officially unveiled on March 8, and owner Mike Wallau said "we're shooting for March 17" to open the Italian-American restaurant. The mural, which cost about $10,000, is 48 feet long and 8 feet high, Mr. Wallau said. It was painted off-site and then mounted in panels, he added: "It took four guys to get it up there." A work of art was required at the new restaurant as part of Menlo Park's public art law, but Mr. Wallau said he had already planned to put up a mural.
