Holiday drives go over the top
More than 6,100 toys and 1,300 warm coats were collected over the holidays by Coldwell Banker Northern California in cooperation with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and Emergency Housing Consortium.
This was the 16th year Coldwell Banker Northern California served as a gift collection center for the Toys for Tots campaign and the eighth year the company participated in Operation One Warm Coat.
Flapjack breakfast raises $550 for Scouts
After the flour dust had cleared, Boy Scouts from Portola Valley's Troop 64 had raised over $550 from their annual pancake breakfast, held outdoors recently at the Portola Valley fire station.
About 100 hungry diners kept the Scouts scrambling eggs, making pancake batter, flipping flapjacks and grilling sausages. They served the food and cleaned up.
Besides raising funds for upcoming campouts and events, the Scouts learned valuable new skills, reported parent Richard Thurlow.
Special thanks go to the benfactors: Draeger's market for the sausages; Bianchini's Market, milk and butter; John's Market, orange juice; Albertson's, paper goods; Safeway, eggs and syrup; and private donors who provided coffee and pancake mix.
