Principal is sentenced for punching one of her students
(March 17, 2004) A Menlo Park middle-school principal was sentenced March 9 on a charge of battery after being convicted of punching in the mouth one of her 12-year-old students last year.
Nobantu Ankoanda, 56, principal of the School of Wisdom and Knowledge, was sentenced March 9 by San Mateo County Superior Court Judge Mark Forcum to serve two days in county jail, complete 80 hours of community service and two years court probation, and pay $110 to the state's victim restitution fund, said a spokesman for the San Mateo County District Attorney's office.
The school, located at 475 Pope St. in Menlo Park, is chartered by the Ravenswood City School District. Superintendent Floyd Gonella said he wrote a letter to the principal and the school's governing board warning he would recommend terminating the school's charter should any other such incidents occur.
