Alpine Little League opens season March 27
The Alpine-West Menlo Little League will launch its 2004 season Saturday, March 27, with opening day ceremonies starting at 9 a.m. at Ford Field on Alpine Road in Portola Valley.
Teams from all divisions are invited and a guest speaker is planned. Last year's all stars will be honored. The ceremonies, which should last about an hour, will be followed by the first Little League game of the season.

Signups this week for 'Big League' ball
Signups for "Big League Baseball," the highest level of Little League organized through the Redwood City National League, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 20, at the Sequoia High School baseball field stands in Redwood City. All 17- and 18-year-olds residing in San Mateo County are eligible.
Regular season games start May 30 and conclude around July 4, with all-star games following. There will be double-headers every Sunday against East Bay teams and Wednesday evening games against San Francisco teams.

Baseball: M-A tops El Camino, 6-4
Menlo-Atherton High School defeated El Camino, 6-4, at Flood Park on Saturday, March 13. Trailing 4-3 in the fifth inning, Alex Bedrosian of M-A collected his second double of the game, driving in all three base runners. Kyle McCabe shut down El Camino the rest of the game, earning his third win of the season. M-A is now 4-5 on the season and El Camino is 3-3. The Bears open PAL league play this week hosting Carlmont at Flood Park on Wednesday and then play the Scots on Friday at Carlmont.
