Wildflower walk time at Edgewood preserve Wildflower walk time at Edgewood preserve (March 17, 2004)

One of the great spring treats of the Peninsula is a stroll among the native wildflowers that used to blanket the local hills. Nowhere are these more spectacular than at Edgewood Natural Preserve off Edgewood Road near Interstate 280.

Every Saturday and Sunday through June 13, docents from the Friends of Edgewood Natural Preserve will lead wildflower hikes, starting at 10 a.m. and lasting about three hours. It is not unusual to see more than 50 species of blooming wildflowers in a single walk, they say.

Participants meet at Old Stage Daycamp on Edgewood Road east of Interstate 280 and down the hill. The walks are free, and no reservations are required for groups of fewer than 10. Bring comfortable walking shoes, water, hats, and sunscreen. Some Saturday hikes will start from different locations.
