** Marine Corps Lance Corporal Jonathan H. Gonzalez, a 2002 graduate of Woodside High School, recently returned from a routine scheduled deployment on board the USS Peleliu, homeported in San Diego, while assigned to the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), based out of Camp Pendleton, California. During the deployment, Gonzalez's unit conducted humanitarian assistance, security and stabilization missions in Iraq, the Marine Corps says. They also patrolled international waters in the Red Sea and Horn of Africa to deter the transport of terrorist personnel and equipment.
