This information is from the Atherton and Menlo Park police departments and the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. Under the law, people charged with offenses are considered innocent until convicted.


Strong-arm robbery: A student at Menlo-Atherton High School reported being the victim of a strong-arm robbery at school on March 25. Police have another student in custody in connection with the incident.

** Someone used a "slim jim," a tool used by locksmiths to unlock vehicles, to break into a vehicle in the 1000 block of El Camino Real on March 27 and steal the stereo.
** Someone stole an external disc drive, personal files and collectable coins from an office located in a resident's garage in the first block of Larch Drive on March 31.
Moments later the same resident reported that his house was also burglarized and a pair of binoculars and 45 jukebox records were stolen.

Petty thefts: Recycling bin stolen from residence, first block of Fairview Avenue, March 26.
Two oak trees stolen from yard, 100 block of Stockbridge Avenue, March 30.

Menlo Park

Vehicle accident: Two vehicles collided on March 27 at the intersection of Marsh Road and Bayfront Expressway; one of the drivers was taken to Kaiser hospital due to a complaint of back and neck pain.

Grand theft: Leather jacket stolen, 200 block of Marmona Drive, March 27.
Bicycle stolen, 900 block of Woodland Avenue, March 30.

Fraud: Inaccurate loan information passed, Cadillac of Menlo Park, March 30.
Identity theft, 1500 block of Laurel Place, March 30.

Burglaries: Someone stole a remote control car and a radio from Willow Oaks School on March 31.
Both items were recovered.

Vandalism: Window smashed at Prime Core Funding, 100 block of El Camino Real, March 27.
Front yard "turfed" by vehicle, 1300 block of Hobart Street, March 31.
Rose garden destroyed by vehicle, 200 block of Sand Hill Circle, March 31.

Auto burglaries: Navigation system stolen, 1600 block of Adams Drive, March 29.
CD player stolen, 2100 block of Santa Cruz Avenue, March 29.
Computer stolen, 200 block of Robin Way, March 30.

Petty thefts: Bicycle stolen, 400 block of Oak Grove Avenue, March 28. Vehicle rims stolen, 1500 block of San Antonio Avenue, March 29.
Cell phone stolen, 200 block of Newbridge Street, March 29.


Vandalism: Rearview mirror removed, Canada College, March 17.
Someone ran over trees that were recently planted, Canada College, March 28.
Vehicle shot by pellet gun and window broken, 2100 block of Stockbridge Avenue, March 30.

Fraud: Three people had their names and social security numbers used on false W-2 forms made out for false tax refunds and credits in the first block of Prospect Street on March 26.

Grand theft:
** A resident of the 3300 block of Woodside Road reported on March 12 that someone stole and opened the resident's mail.
** A resident of the first block of Fox Hill Road reported identity theft and mail theft on March 22.

Burglaries: Money taken from coin purse, Canada College, March 25.
Money stolen from cabinet, Canada College, March 22.
License plates stolen or lost, 1400 block of Portola Road, March 26.

Portola Valley

Hit and run: Someone drove into a mailbox then fled the scene at the intersection of Nathhorst Avenue and Alpine Road on March 26.

Grand theft: Personal information stolen from unlocked vehicle, 500 block of Portola Road, March 29.

Vandalism: Passenger side of vehicle damaged, 300 block of Portola Road. Passenger window of vehicle broken, 100 block of Westridge Drive, March 27.
Passenger side of vehicle damaged, 700 block of Portola Road, March 28.

Fraud: A resident of the first block of Grove Drive reported on March 25 that she has been receiving phone calls about a loan in her name that is in default, though she has taken out no such loan. Two years ago, the resident was a victim of identity theft.

Burglaries: Purse stolen from vehicle, 500 block of Portola Road, March 23.
