St. Raymond School goes undefeated, again
The St. Raymond School seventh-grade boy's basketball B team topped off its third straight undefeated season with a 41-23 win over Our Lady of Angels School in Burlingame in the PPSL final March 13 at Serra High School.
The Sharks, who struggled with St. Matthews in the South Division finals, got off to a quick 8-0 lead against OLA due in large part to the shooting efforts of Clark Forsaith and Johnny Strong.
The victory was a team effort, with Jeff DeGregorio and Chris Helfrich dominating the boards and Ian Tolle, Michael Mendoza and David Thomas making key plays. Adam Squires suffered a mid-season injury and was unable to play.
St. Raymond JVs takes another title
The St. Raymond JV basketball team, the Cardinals, captured its second straight PPSL title with a victory over the North Division champion OLA Angels, 37-31, on March 13 at Serra High School.
The Cardinals applied their trademark defense in earning the win and were supported by key three-point shooting from Ryan Sakowski, excellent court management from Anthony Andrighetto, and tough rebounding by Trevor Fuerst and Doyle Pitchford. Johnny McDowell, Kevin Viegas, Kevin Lamb and Andrew Gordon also made key contributions. Matt Davison, whose broken wrist prevented him from playing, supported the team from the sidelines.
Report by Mark Pitchford, coach of seventh-grade basketball at St. Raymond School
