Local hoopsters win tourney Local hoopsters win tourney (April 07, 2004)

The Redwood National Junior Basketball fourth-grade All-Star team -- with players from Woodside, Portola Valley, Atherton, Menlo Park and Redwood City -- won the Silicon Valley Sectional Tournament on Saturday, March 27, and thus qualified for the championship division of the national tournament to be held in Anaheim April 16-18.

Redwood won three games in advancing to the national tournament. It defeated Willow Glen, 51-30; Palo Alto #2, 61-29; and Palo Alto #1, 47-39.

The team was led by the offensive efforts of point guards Ricki Hoffer and Patrick Bruni, and posts James Shaw, Richard Harris, Matthew McNamara and Luke Thomas. It was supported by good defense and outside shooting by wings Miles Weiss, Andrew Vetter, Andrew Lim and Sam Carver. The team's coaches are Steven Yecies and David Carver.
