The Menlo Park and Palo Alto police departments teamed up last week to arrest two men in connection with a March 26 burglary at Hoot 'n' Toot Cleaners at 875 Santa Cruz Ave. in downtown Menlo Park, where police found a broken window and the cash register burglarized.
The two men -- Thomas Edward Love, 33, and John Craig McIntosh, 35 -- were out on bail after being held in Santa Clara County jail for nearly two months in connection with commercial burglary charges in Mountain View and Palo Alto, police said.
Palo Alto police had been investigating the two in connection with night-time burglaries in the California Avenue shopping area in Palo Alto that had occurred since their release on bail. Mr. McIntosh was released March 2 and Mr. Love on March 18.
The California Avenue burglaries "had the same m.o. (modus operandi)" as previous burglaries for which they had been held, said Detective Kara Apple of the Palo Alto Police Department.
When Menlo Park police contacted Palo Alto about the March 26 Hoot 'n' Toot burglary, Palo Alto police found and arrested the men the same night, said Detective Apple. They were booked into San Mateo County jail on burglary and probation-violation charges.
