Menlo Kiwanis members celebrate a $60,000 year Menlo Kiwanis members celebrate a $60,000 year (April 21, 2004)

Members of the Kiwanis Club of Menlo Park contributed more than $60,000 for scholarships and to support nonprofit organizations during 2003, Kiwanis president Jim Hall recently announced.

Students at Menlo-Atherton High School and the Eastside College Preparatory School in East Palo Alto were the beneficiaries of Kiwanis scholarships, while younger folks were helped by Kiwanis gifts to the Children's Fund of San Mateo County and the Lucile Packard Children's Fund, Mr. Hall said.

Other Kiwanis donations going to San Mateo County organizations included contributions to senior services at the Menlo Park Senior Center, Little House and Rosener House; and help for the needy through the Shelter Network, St. Anthony's Padua Dining Room and the Second Harvest Food Bank.

The club has raised more than a million dollars for the community during its 50 years in existence, Mr. Hall said.

Kiwanis members recently celebrated the club's efforts at a holiday party at the Stanford Park Hotel in Menlo Park, featuring holiday songs performed by Sarah Hope and Matt Liebowitz. The siblings are the grandchildren of Loyd Ellis, the club's treasurer and a longtime member.
