Vocalist Juliet Green featured at De Anza jazz festival Vocalist Juliet Green featured at De Anza jazz festival (May 05, 2004)

Jazz vocalist Juliet Green, music specialist at Portola Valley's Corte Madera School, will be the featured concert artist at the 23rd annual Herb Patnoe Memorial Jazz Festival at De Anza College on Thursday, May 13.

Ms. Green, who studied and performed with De Anza College's vocal jazz programs for five years, will present her own program as well as perform with De Anza's Vocal Flight, a mixed vocal jazz group, and Tres Chic, a women's vocal jazz group, both directed by Roger Letson; and the "Daddios" Jazz Ensemble, a big band directed by Steve Tyler.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Hinson Campus Center on the De Anza campus, 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd. in Cupertino. Tickets -- at $20 for general admission and $10 for students, faculty and seniors -- may be purchased at the Creative Arts Division Office as well as at the door. Proceeds will go to the Patnoe Scholarship Fund, established in memory of the jazz performer, faculty member and founder of De Anza's jazz program.

"I'm thrilled that Juliet -- one of our De Anza student success stories -- will be performing with us at the Patnoe Festival this year," said Roger Letson, who directs the college's vocal jazz programs. "Juliet has a strong background and training in classical voice and musical theater, but she's always had a foundation in jazz."

Ms. Green will be interviewed and be a guest disk jockey on the Mal Sharpe show on KCSM (91.1-FM) on Sunday, May 9, from 9 to 11 p.m.

Besides singing, Ms. Green's passions include teaching and learning. She is constantly trying to stretch her musicianship by studying with other Bay Area greats such as Madeline Eastman, Mimi Fox, Susan Muscarella and Carolyn Brandy. A founder of the a cappella group +4db, Ms. Green has toured and performed with the group in Seattle; Washington, D.C.; Boston, France, Germany and Japan. With the disbanding of +4db in 2001, Green began working on solo and small-ensemble material.
