Holocaust program shows different views
(May 05, 2004) They were all children during World War II, but they looked at the world through widely different perspectives.
Featured in the film "An Uncommon Friendship: From Opposite Sides of the Holocaust," Bernat Rosner, Frederick Tubach and Eva Leveton will speak at Sacred Heart Prep in Atherton on Wednesday, May 12, during a program that also includes a showing of the film.
Mr. Rosner comes from an Orthodox Jewish Hungarian family and is the only member of his family to survive the Holocaust, program organizers said. Mr. Tubach's father was an officer in the Nazi Party in Germany, and Ms. Leveton lived with her Christian mother in Berlin after her Jewish father moved to San Francisco.
The film was made after Mr. Rosner and Mr. Tubach wrote a memoir with the same name. Ms. Leveton is the author of "Eva's Berlin: Memories of a Wartime Childhood."
The event is free and open to the public. Following a 6 p.m. dinner, the event runs from 7 to 9 p.m. at the school at 150 Valparaiso Ave. RSVPs are requested; call Liz Vogel at (510) 786-2500, extension 224, or email liz_vogel@facing.org.
