Las Lomitas Hoedown raises money for schools Las Lomitas Hoedown raises money for schools (May 05, 2004)

Friends, families, neighbors and employees of the Las Lomitas Elementary School District are invited to dinner, music, a silent auction and the chance to ride a mechanical bull at the district's annual Hoedown event -- all to raise money for school libraries, small classes and other school programs.

The Hoedown begins at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 15, at Portola Farm in Woodside. Western dress is recommended. Tickets are $75 for general admission and $25 for district staff. To receive an invitation, call Cathy Lewis at 854-6165.

The libraries -- one at Las Lomitas Elementary School in Atherton and the other at La Entrada Middle School in Menlo Park -- are in need of $36,000, in part to update book collections and computer facilities, said Amy Paulsen, a member of the executive board of the Las Lomitas Education Foundation.

The Las Lomitas district serves about 1,000 students, including 91 students from the Ravenswood School District.

Auction items at the Hoedown will include a dude-ranch vacation in Montana, a night at the opera, a viewing of a private military vehicle collection, and a vintner's dinner at Opus One. Other items include event tickets, fine wines and discounts on local services.
