Q. Has anything changed in downtown Menlo Park for the Menlo Park police since Menlo-Atherton stopped allowing students to leave campus at lunchtime?

A. Of course, one impact has been a dramatically decreased population downtown during the lunch hour. One of the byproducts is an increase in our ability to readily identify truants. When we do find students off campus without an excuse, we call the school to find out if they should be in class; if we learn they are absent without permission, we return them to school.
