Seniors can now file for school parcel tax exemptions
(May 12, 2004) Seniors ages 65 and up who live on property they own in the Menlo Park, Las Lomitas or Portola Valley elementary school districts may file now for senior exemptions from recent school parcel taxes.
Deadline for filing for this exemption is Monday, May 31, in the Portola Valley district; Tuesday, June 1, in the Las Lomitas district; and Friday, June 4, in the Menlo Park district.
Menlo Park
In the Menlo Park district, voters have passed three parcel tax measures: the April 2000 tax, now $328.98, and two last November. The renewed Measure A tax is $97 for 2004-05; the new Measure B is $73. A letter and application for the 2004-05 exemption have been mailed to seniors who filed for an exemption in previous years or who have requested an exemption. These tax exemptions must be filed on an annual basis.
Applications are available at Little House, the Menlo Park Library and the Menlo Park City School District office, 181 Encinal Ave., Atherton; or by calling Doreen Mazzei at the district office, 321-7140.
Las Lomitas
Seniors in the Las Lomitas districts may apply for an exemption from the $196 parcel tax, passed by voters in November 2001. Application forms are available at the school district administration office, 1011 Altschul Ave., Menlo Park, or by calling 854-6311.
Portola Valley
Applications have been sent to seniors in the Portola Valley district who have previously filed exemptions and to those who already have requested them since passage of the new $295 parcel tax April 2. To request an application, call Mary Ann Anderson at the school district office, 851-1777, ext. 3001.
