Menlo hosts Special Olympics
For the 13th consecutive year, Menlo School will host the Special Olympics' track and field competition on Saturday, May 22, at Cartan Field on the Atherton school's campus for the 13th consecutive year.
Activities begin at 9 a.m., with opening ceremonies and the lighting of the Olympic torch. About 120 Special Olympics athletes are expected to participate in traditional track and field events as well as adaptive events, such as the softball throw. The public is invited to attend and admission is free.
Menlo School students and parents will participate in staffing the events. Volunteers from Woodside Elementary School also will help out in the Olympic Village.
Basketball tourney in Menlo Park
North American Youth Sports will hold its annual summer regional tournament June 4-6 for the San Francisco area at both the Boys and Girls Club of Menlo Park and Redwood City.
The tournament will feature 10 brackets and include boys and girls from the fifth grade through the 12th grade.
Entry fee is $250 and guarantees each team a minimum of five games. The deadline for entry is May 14.
