Atmospheric conditions were just right for an egg-shaped cloud of water vapor to appear behind this F/A-18 Hornet as it broke the sound barrier in this 1999 photo taken from the deck of an aircraft carrier in the Pacific Ocean, according to U.S. Navy sources.
