Local meetings on wildfires Local meetings on wildfires (June 02, 2004)

Could your home survive a wildland fire?

That's a question officials from the Woodside Fire Protection District want Portola Valley and Woodside homeowners to keep in mind. They're holding two, hour-long informational meetings June 8 and June 10 to cover topics such as fire-resistant landscaping, insurance concerns, creating defensible space around homes, and fire-resistive construction.

The meeting are set for:

** Tuesday, June 8 at 7 p.m. in Portola Valley Town Hall, 765 Portola Road.

** Thursday, June 10, at 7 p.m. at the main Woodside fire station, 3111 Woodside Road.

California is facing an early and extremely severe fire season this year, said Fire Marshal Denise Enea.

"A catastrophic wildfire is one of the most significant threats to our community," she said.
