Father Gerald Brown: the next seminary president
Father Gerald Brown: the next seminary president
(June 16, 2004) The man who is replacing Father Gerald Coleman as president
and rector at St. Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park has two things in
common with him: the same first name, and a longstanding familiarity with
the seminary.
Father Gerald Brown was also a student at St. Patrick's, becoming
ordained in 1964. He then joined the Society of St. Sulpice, an order of
diocesan priests that focuses on educating other priests. His higher education
degrees include a 1979 doctorate in speech communications from Temple
University in Philadelphia.
Father Brown is not new to heading a seminary. From 1976 to 1985,
he was president and rector at St. Joseph's Seminary in Los Altos. His work
has also included serving as president and rector at Assumption Seminary in
San Antonio, Texas, from 1999 to the present.
He was provincial superior of the U.S. Province of the Sulpicians
from 1985 to 1997.
