Council plans to adopt budget this week
(June 23, 2004) The Menlo Park City Council is set to adopt this week a $29.23 million general fund budget that includes eliminating the equivalent of 10.75 full-time positions and drawing $2 million out of reserves for street and sidewalk repair.
The budget for fiscal year 2004-05 also includes drawing out $958,000 more from reserves for operating expenses and retirement costs. The city is in its fourth straight year of budget cuts due to sluggish revenues, estimated at $26.27 million in 2004-05.
Several staff cuts have been controversial, including eliminating a recreation leader position at the Onetta Harris Community Center in Belle Haven and the coordinator position for the city's shuttle bus service.
The council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, in the council chambers at 801 Laurel St.
