USGS talk: strawberries and global warming

"From Strawberry Fields to the Ozone Layer" is the title of a free public lecture at the U.S. Geological Survey at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 24, in Building 3 at the Menlo Park campus, 345 Middlefield Road. Biogeochemist Laurence G. Miller will describe how the pesticide methyl bromide, widely used on strawberries and other field crops, is contributing to destruction of the Earth's ozone layer -- and how research on bacteria at USGS may help solve the problem. For information, call 329-5000.
