Widening work, tree removal on Sand Hill Road Widening work, tree removal on Sand Hill Road (July 07, 2004)

After the lethargic July 4th weekend, Sand Hill Road will erupt in activity as Stanford University's widening work begins Tuesday, July 6, between Santa Cruz Avenue and the San Francisquito Creek bridge, along the Stanford golf course.

Passers-by may be surprised by "a temporary loss of trees" in the area, but crews will save as many trees as possible, including temporarily moving healthy native trees off site, Stanford officials said. New plantings will take place, with landscaping expected to be finished early next year, they said.

During the week of July 5, single-lane traffic will occur in the area periodically between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., with flaggers directing vehicles.
