Village band concert

Richard Gordon will lead the Woodside Village Band, with guest Peninsula Saxiphonica, in the 17th annual summer concert on Saturday, July 10. The performance starts at 3 p.m. at the Woodside Village Church, 3154 Woodside Road.

The program includes works by Charles Ives, Edvard Grieg, and John Philip Sousa, and show tunes from Broadway hits "The Sound of Music," "Oliver!" and "Kiss Me Kate."

Saxophone quintet Peninsula Saxophonica will perform with the band, and a reception will follow in the church's Guild Hall. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted with gratitude, Mr. Gordon said.

Woodside Day

Woodsiders are encouraged to come out in force and cheer on the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, July 11. Once again, the Woodside Recreation Committee is sponsoring Woodside Day at SBC Park. The game against division rivals Arizona Diamondbacks starts at 1:05 p.m.

A block of 100 seats has been reserved in section 324 by third base in the upper deck. Tickets are $23 per person and available by filling out a form at www.woodsiderec.com, or calling Chuck Martin at 851-1482. Mr. Martin says random prizes will be given to ticket holders throughout the game.

Kara black-tie-optional gala July 15

For the third year, Kara is putting on a black-tie-optional party. The date is Thursday, July 15; the place: Crowne Plaza Cabana, 4290 El Camino Real, Palo Alto. Festivities start with a 6 p.m. reception and silent auction, followed by dinner, a live auction, and dancing.

Kara is an organization that provides support to those who are grieving a death or face a life-threatening illness. Honorees are Mark Harris, Dottie Comstock, Dorothy Finerty, Mary Fought and Ed Garwin. Kristina Myers is event chairman. Tickets are $175 per person. For more information, call 321-5272.
