Homeowners urged to clear brush
(July 07, 2004) Fire season has started, and that means Woodside Fire Protection District officials are urging residents to protect their property by mowing dead grasses and clearing dry brush in a 30- to 100-foot perimeter around their homes.
Creating this zone of "defensible space" is even more important this year, since indicators suggest it will be a hot, dry summer with high fire danger, said Fire Marshal Denise Enea.
Firefighters will make inspections throughout the district in July, she said.
California law requires structures to have a minimum 30-foot clearance from hazardous and combustible vegetation. Low-growing, fire-resistant vegetation is OK, she said.
