Ask the officer Ask the officer (July 14, 2004)

Menlo Park police officer Glenn J. Raggio answers questions about the police and law enforcement. Call 330-6396, or e-mail: asktheofficer@menlopark.org.

Q. What are the most dangerous intersections in Menlo Park?

A. While some of the obvious ones come to mind (Menlo Avenue at El Camino Real, Willow Road at Bayfront Expressway, and Willow Road at Newbridge Street, for example), I personally feel that all downtown intersections are areas where special caution should be the rule. The constant traffic and competition for parking creates a situation where drivers' attention is divided. Add a cell phone and some impatience, and you've got a recipe for disaster. I have seen more close calls in crosswalks downtown than at any particular intersection. In full uniform, at high noon, I've nearly been struck three times -- in the crosswalk!
